Deenz Schizotypal Personality Scale (DSPS-27)
Schizotypal personality test is an interactive version of Deenz Schizotypal Personality Scale (DSPS-27) used to measure subclinical traits associated with schizotypal personality. The scale consists of 27 statements related to behavior. The self-test is used as a preliminary measure for identifying tendencies or assessing the traits associated with Schizotypal personality. Subclinical traits fall below the threshold of a clinical diagnosis of Schizotypal Personality Disorder. Schizotypal personality is often described as having one foot in reality and one foot in a world of fantasy. Schizotypal Personality falls under the umbrella of personality disorders. It is a complex psychological condition involving social and interpersonal difficulties, cognitive distortions, unusual perceptions, eccentric behaviors, and odd beliefs.
Believing in magic or thinking in unusual ways alone does not make someone schizotypal. However, there are a wide range of traits associated with schizotypal personality including odd beliefs, perceptual distortions, social discomfort, isolation, suspiciousness, unusual thinking, eccentric behavior, and emotional detachment. These traits must significantly affect social, interpersonal, occupational, or daily functioning before a clinical diagnosis can be considered. The assessment consists of 27 statements and typically takes 4–6 minutes to complete. Participants respond to statements describing beliefs, behaviors, perceptions, emotional experiences, interpersonal tendencies, and personality characteristics associated with schizotypal traits.
This assessment is intended for adults and older adolescents interested in understanding personality characteristics associated with schizotypal traits.
The scoring of this self-test is very simple, there are 27 items scored on a five-point response scale. Item responses are calculated to produce a raw total score ranging from 0 to 108, with higher scores indicating greater levels of schizotypal personality-related traits. Results include an Overall Index Score and scores for nine dimensions: Fantastical Thinking, Social Discomfort, Eccentricity, Magical Thinking, Perceptual Aberrations, Unusual Thinking, Suspiciousness, Emotional Reserve, and Peculiar Behavior. Dimension scores are standardized to a 0–100 scale and interpreted using qualitative categories. Overall results are classified into five interpretive ranges: • Minimal (0–20) • Mild (21–40) • Moderate (41–60) • High (61–80) • Very High (81–100)
