Background

Psychopath Test is an interactive version of the DPSS-24 it helps find out whether or not you may have psychopathy traits. The key dimensions that this scale aims to assess are Aggression, Impulsivity, Callousness, Manipulation, Ego, and Glibness.

This quiz consists of 24 statements related to behavior, and participants indicate their level of agreement with each statement ranging from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree.

The term psychopathy has been derived from the Greek words “psyche” meaning mind and “pathos” meaning suffering. In the past, psychopathy was described as the suffering of the mind. Over time the understanding of psychopathy has changed and in modern psychology it is considered a personality construct characterized by antisocial tendencies, emotional coldness, impulsivity, manipulation, and reduced empathy.

In contemporary psychology, the term psychopathy is often discussed alongside antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). Researchers suggest that psychopathy and antisocial personality disorder do not share identical traits and it is not necessary that every individual with psychopathic traits meets the criteria for ASPD. Psychopathy is multifaceted, therefore understanding traits on a spectrum has proven beneficial for research and psychological assessment.

The purpose of Deenz Psychopathy Spectrum Scale (DPSS-24) is to measure subclinical traits including lack of empathy, impulsivity, manipulative behavior, aggression, egoistic tendencies, and superficial charm. Subclinical traits are considered below the threshold required for a formal clinical diagnosis.

Procedure

The assessment consists of 24 statements and typically takes 3–5 minutes to complete. Participants respond to statements describing personality characteristics, interpersonal tendencies, emotional reactions, and behavioral patterns associated with psychopathic traits.

Participation

This assessment is intended for adults and older adolescents interested in understanding personality characteristics associated with psychopathic traits.

Scoring

The scoring of this self-test is very simple, there are 24 items scored on a five-point response scale. Item responses are calculated to produce a raw total score ranging from 0 to 96, with higher scores indicating greater levels of psychopathy-related personality traits.

Results include an Overall Index Score and scores for six dimensions: Aggression, Impulsivity, Callousness, Manipulation, Ego, and Glibness.

Dimension scores are standardized to a 0–100 scale and interpreted using qualitative categories.

Overall results are classified into five interpretive ranges:

• Minimal (0–20)
• Mild (21–40)
• Moderate (41–60)
• High (61–80)
• Very High (81–100)
