Deenz Inferiority Complex Scale (DICS-21) Measuring Multidimensional Inferiority Tendencies

Introduction

The Deenz Inferiority Complex Scale (DICS-21) is a brief, multidimensional self-report questionnaire designed to measure perceived inadequacy, self-doubt, and sensitivity to comparison across everyday situations. The scale is used by researchers to find out out inferiority complex by evaluating four key dimensions performance doubt, social comparison, evaluation anxiety and self-doubt.

Procedure

Participants are presented with 21 short statements describing everyday situations. They are asked to indicate how much each statement reflects their typical thoughts or feelings using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Not at all like me to 5 = Very much like me). The scale can be administered individually or in groups, either online or in paper format. There is no time limit, and most participants complete the scale within 5–10 minutes. Responses are scored by summing item ratings, with reverse scoring applied to positively worded items. Higher scores indicate stronger inferiority-related tendencies. Participation is voluntary, and responses should be given honestly for accurate results.

Participation

The Deenz Inferiority Complex Scale (DICS-21) is designed for adolescents and adults. It is a short self-report tool that measures everyday feelings of self-doubt, comparison with others, and discomfort with evaluation. It is suitable for research, educational use, and general self-awareness, but it is not intended for clinical diagnosis.
